Spring View 0 Widnes West Bank 22
WEST Bank overcame the considerable hurdle of this tough Wigan outfit in some style.
Playing an expansive brand of rugby the Bears consolidated second place in the NW Counties Third Division.
The forward battle was an intense 80 minute affair that West Bank won to lay the platform for some scintillating back play.
After the build up and anticipation of this game the first moments could not have gone any better for the visitors.
Bears opened up when Dave Jones surged to the line and off-loaded to Ryan Bates for a try.
Ste Mellor converted.
Bank stretched the lead to 10 points when Ste Curphey and Tommy Arrowsmith combined to put Jones through for the score of the game.
The home team had the lion’s share of possession early in the second half but thunderous tackling from Paul Curphey, Wayne Courtnage and Bates rocked the Spring View attackers.
Eventually the pressure of West Bank’s attacks forced the gallant Spring View defenders to give way.
Greg Pichilingi burst through in support and then an irresistible forward drive was finished off by the enthusiastic Sean Gilmore.
He was deservedly awarded man of the match by the home team.
