BOBSLEIGH Winter Olympics hope Allyn Condon is busy preparing to represent his country on the Whistler track in Vancouver, Canada.
Former Sale Harriers summer Olympic sprint star Condon, who hails from Runcorn, is the breakman in the Team GB four-man sled that will bullet into action on February 26.
Here is his diary on the build-up to realising his dream appearance in Winter Olympics 2010.
After a really great week’s training in Park City, Utah, the team moved on to Calgary to the Team GB holding camp.
The camp was set up for all GB athletes to travel through before going into the games environment.
For our team, being in Calgary meant three extra training sessions in the ice house practicing loading, starting and more team gelling.
We achieved all we needed to do.
After two days in Calgary we travelled into Vancouver for the opening ceremony, which was an absolutely fantastic show. It was obvious to all that years of time had gone into it.
We then stayed overnight in the Vancouver Olympic village before travelling back to Calgary for a further two sessions in the ice house.
On February 15 we travelled back to Vancouver and then arrived at the Whistler Village in the evening, where we are due to stay until March 1.
On the first day arriving after unpacking I was moved out of the village into a hotel in Whistler as I had a stomach bug and the team wanted to limit the risk of infection within the camp.
I am now back in the village and looking forward to the start of two-man training week.
Although I don’t compete in two-man bobsleigh, I will be helping out with training runs during the week to limit fatigue on the athlete competing, Dan Money.
It will also give me my first opportunity to slide on the now Olympic prepared ice in Whistler.
The team is in high spirits and feel that we are on course for a good result.
We have discussed individual expectations among the team and all agree that anywhere in the top 15 - considering the competition - would be a good result but we all feel that we can achieve a top 10 and maybe a top eight finish.
