THE 2009 Derek Roylance Widnes Challenge Cup competition, organised by the Widnes Football Forum Committee, kicks off on August 1, with nine teams this year. St Maries Park FC are the newcomers to the competition, games will played in two groups and matches scheduled to be played at ICI Rec, St Michaels DH and Halebank FC.
Fixtures were drawn at the meeting on Thursday and this has the makings to be the best competition to date with all clubs eager to earn the title of Derek Roylance Widnes Challenge Cup Champions 2009.
Current holders St Michaels face tough competition in Group One which consists of five teams, this is the first year where they have not been in the same group as Halebank.
Moorfield FC, Village FC, Avon Athletic, St Michaels DH FC, St Maries Park FC.
Group Two consists of: Halton Borough, Cronton Villa FC. Halebank, Widnes Bayer.
The competition, in memory of former Avon Atheltic stalwart, Derek Roylance, is backed by Halton Council’s sports development team.
However, the organisers would welcome sponsorship from local companies wishing to get involved with open-age football and anyone interested can contact Mick Millea on 0151 424 7918.
Final of this year’s competition is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, at St Michaels DH.
