THE League have deducted a total of 128 points from Widnes’ ECB Premier League record and suspended fast bowler Ataur Rehman for future games season.
It is a result of the former Pakistan Test bowler making an unauthorised appearance as deputy professional for Heywood against Walsden in the Central Lancashire League on May 3.
Players may not play in League or Cup games in another League without Cricket Committee approval. After his solo appearance for Heywood, Rehman continued to play regularly for Widnes throughout May and early June, becoming the league’s top wicket-taker with 32 victims.
Consequently, Widnes have had 24 points deducted for their win against Alderley Edge, four points for their defeat by Toft; 20 for their defeat of Macclesfield; 25 for their defeat of Didsbury; and five for their defeat by Bowdon - a total of 78. They have had a further 10 points deducted according to rule for fielding an ineligible player in each of these five games, a further 50 points raising the total to 128.
