SKATERS from Widnes Ice Skating Club, based at Planet Ice in Widnes, are having a bumper medal winning year with an impressive 21 Gold, 30 Silver and 15 bronze medals in the past year alone, and with more competitions lined up that tally is set to rise.

“Our skaters have competed all over, from Sheffield to Slovenia,” said club Chairman, Simon Wareing, “we even had a group compete in the British Championships so we now boast two British Champions.

"Our members are proof of what you can achieve with hard work and dedication.”

The club has been running for four years and has over one hundred members, they regularly run in-house competitions and galas to help the skaters hone their skills and get used to competition conditions.

These competitions accommodate all levels of skater, from beginners to gold medallists, with everyone giving each other full support and encouragement.

And it seems to be paying off, in the past year club members have skated at competitions in France, Slovenia, Copenhagen, Estonia, Dundee, Sheffield, Milton Keynes, Bracknell, Blackpool and Murrayfield; and with many more lined up for the coming season they’re showing no signs of slowing down.

“I love being part of the club,” said one member, “skating is great fun and much more accessible than people think, I’ve only been skating for four years and I competed at the British Championships this year, I could never have imagined that when I first started.”
