WIDNES Vikings' interim coach Francis Cummins admitted his team had been their own worst enemies after they had slumped to a 10th defeat in a row.

They lost at fellow bottom four side Salford to remain rooted to the foot of Super League - and had Chris Houston sent off for dissent.

Cummins said: "I thought we let ourselves down which has been the pattern for most of the year.

"Salford kept completing which is credit to them because they are down to the bare bones.

"We had enough ball to win that game and for large parts of it we were in charge. At the moment we can't seem to get out of the cycle of making errors."

Widnes ended with 12 men after Houston was sent off for mockingly applauding referee James Child who had just shown him the yellow card for a high tackle on Burke.

"He was obviously frustrated but what he did was inexcusable," said Cummins.

"You can't be doing stuff like that and I've told him so. He disrespected his team-mates and disrespected the club."
