WIDNES Vikings travel to basement side Huddersfield on Friday (7.45pm) with a feeling that they owe them one after March’s encounter at Halton Stadium.

That evening Viking underperformed and were chasing the game after two errors gifted the Giants a 12-point start.

Depleted Vikings have lost their last five Super League games and, at just past the midway point before the Super 8s split, are getting desperate for a victory.

Vikings boss Denis Betts said: “We need to take this one back because they beat us here.

“That was the one game - in recent weeks - where I felt we underperformed for about 30 minutes.

“We dropped a couple of bombs and that gave them a lead that was hard to claw back.”

Vikings need to start winning to stop the gap opening up between them and the top eight.

They are currently four points off eighth-placed Salford, but have a game in hand.

“We have to start picking up wins,” Betts said.

You can analyse it and say what we need to do.

“But we need to win and get some confidence in our group.

“They have some fantastic players in their group, Kruise Leeming, Ukuma Ta’ai and Jordan Rankin are good players.

“They have some punch in their group.

“They are just lacking in confidence with the way the league unfolds at times.

“The breakaway has occurred in a similar time to last season.”

Aaron Heremaia is back in the mix for selection, Charly Runciman will hopefully train this week after back trouble.

But Ed Chamberlain suffered concussion against Wigan.
