HIGH flying Parklands will be bidding to reach a cup final this Saturday.

James Melvin's side host Rainhill side New Street at Ormiston Chadwick Academy, Liverpool Road, at 2pm in the semi finals of the Warrington and District League Guardian Cup.

The Premier Division runaway leaders do so after an almighty tussle in the weekend's Widnes derby with St Michaels in the last eight.

Parklands progressed 10-9 on penalties after the tie had finished 3-3 after 90 minutes and extra time.

Parklands took the lead after a well-struck Warren Bellews free kick found the head of Anthony Rawlinson, who glanced home.

St Michael’s eagerly pressed for the equaliser with Paul Derbyshire going close before Alan Moss grabbed one back.

The second half saw both teams pressing for an advantage and it was Parklands hit man Jay White who restored their lead.

Once again St Michaels grabbed a quick response through Moss before.

Parklands again pushed in front after a great through ball from Charlie Burdekin allowed Mikey Corrigan to fire home.

However, St Michaels still had some fight left in them and again drew back when Connor Wood grabbed a late equaliser.

Both teams were a little more cautious in the extra period, while still playing exciting football.

Chances were created to no avail as the dreaded penalties loomed.

Parklands goalkeeper Adam Jackson became the hero in the shoot-out.

Meanwhile, in Reserve Division Two, Hurricanes fell 2-0 at home to the Village Club before losing 4-3 at Cronton Villa.

In the latter, Cronton started the game the stronger and were rewarded with two early goals before Hurricanes, against the run of play, pulled one back through David Curran.

Hurricanes continued to fight back and an equaliser from Lee Brill saw the scores equal at half time.

After the break both teams came out fighting but it was Cronton again who gained the advantage.

Luke Shillcock grabbed a late equaliser but Cronton’s immediate response led to them taking all three points.
