Runcorn Linnets Ladies 1 Stockport County Ladies Development 3

IN a Cheshire Women’s League game switched from the Millbank Stadium to an artificial pitch at Stockport Sports Village, Runcorn Linnets Ladies lost for a third time this season against a team they will visit again in this Sunday’s Challenge Cup semi final.

With the cup clash on the minds of both managers, Runcorn boss John Pickering instructed his walking wounded to get through this match without any further addition to an already long casualty list.

Both sides had chances in the first half but the hosts went ahead on 27 minutes when a riochet fell kindly for a County forward.

The lead was increased two minutes later.

County had a goal disallowed on 48 minutes before the Linnets pulled a goal back through Tempany Carlson sending a free-kick high over the home goalkeeper.

Within seconds of the restart, Mandy Kennedy thought she had equalised but her shot came bouncing back of the post with the ’keeper well beaten.

Confidence was running high now and this was typified when Ellie Isherwood’s delightful 64th-minute flick totally wrong footed the County full back. Unfortunately, nothing came from this terrific piece of skill.

Stockport sealed the win with a third from an 84th minute attack, which the Linnets defence should have dealt with better.
