RUNCORN Linnets will go into Saturday’s clash at Charnock Richard 10 points clear of Widnes at the top of the Hallmark Security League Premier Division courtesy of a 5-0 win at Maine Road.
Maine Road’s best chance came at 0-0 through Ben Davison, who looked like he had scored only for Dylan Forth to pull off a miraculous save, scooping the ball away to a defender.
Dominant Linnets went ahead soon after.
A foul on Adam Jones led to Danny O’Brien calmly stroking in his ninth penalty of the season.
The second goal came in the 53rd minute when Kyle Hamid developed a run before finding the perfect pass for an overlapping Paul Shanley to finish.
The remaining three goals came in the last eights, two from Freddie Potter who shot through a crowd of bodies for his first and was in place for a rebound from Stuart Wellstead’s shot to make it 4-0.
Adam Jones bagged the fifth from 30 yards with what could be a goal of the season contender.
