WIDNES Vikings head coach Denis Betts admitted the better team won after the loss to Saints and said 'stupidity' was costing his side dear.

"We just got beaten by a very good side," he said.

"We made silly errors that has given them 18 points. They played with confidence and they are running well.

"They picked their strongest side and it looked like they had plenty of energy and you do get that from confidence and they have plenty of it.

"I can't knock the players for energy, effort and fight but there's stupidity in our game which is killing us."

He added: "We are on the cusp again. We don't want to be in the dogfight mentality that makes you freeze.

"If you are playing in the Widnes first team, you are playing for a reason and you have to show Super League qualities."

Betts also admitted that Barba's second-half score 'hurt' Widnes, which came soon after Vikings wing Ryan Ince had seen a try at the other end ruled out by the video referee

"We don't get that try, that call and they go up the field and get their try. It's a really good try but it did hurt us. But, they were just better than us," he said.
