WIDNES Wild gave their Laidler Division title hopes a welcome boost with a 13-1 win over Blackburn Hawks at Silver Blades on Sunday.

After a tight first period which ended with Wild 2-1 in front the hosts took control with a 6-0 second period before cementing victory with a further five goals in the National Ice Hockey League North Laidler Division Two encounter.

Stuart Brittle scored twice and assisted with four other goals, while Mikey Gilbert, Nick Manning and Kyle Haslam also hit the target twice each.

Head coach Ollie Barron said: “We played good spells of hockey, especially in the second period.”

Wild are away to Telford Tigers this Saturday and then host Deeside Dragons on Sunday at Silver Blades Widnes where face-off is at 5.30pm, with and doors opening at 4.45pm.

Halton Huskies lost 26-3 at Grimsby Stormers in a challenge match.

The Huskies have two home games over the next few weeks, against Whitley Bay Sharks on February 18 and Sheffield Ice Tigers on February 25. Face-off for each game is 8.30pm.
