HALTON SC swimmers were in action at the weekend at the annual Liverpool and District Gala held at Huyton Leisure Centre and they produced a wonderful display of swimming to finish the event with thirty two gold, seventeen silver and eight bronze individual medals and three bronze medals in the relays, one in the girls medley and two in the boys freestyle and medley event.

The weekend also saw the swimmers secure thirty six personal bests between them.

Leading the gold medal hunt were eleven year olds Ben Clayton and Beth Howard-Hughes.

Ben competed in nine events finishing 1st in the 100m, 200m, 400m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m and 100m breaststroke and the 50m and 100m butterfly. Ben also came 2nd in the 200m backstroke and secured seven PB’s.

Beth Howard-Hughes competed in thirteen events and won eight gold medals, finishing 1st in the 200m, 400m freestyle, 100m & 200m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 50m and 100m butterfly and the 200m individual medley.

Beth also finished 2nd in the 100m freestyle, 50m & 200m breaststroke and the 50m backstroke.

She also collected a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle and finished with eight PB’s.

Thirteen year old Joshua Howard-Hughes competed in eleven events and finished in 1st place in the 400m and 1500m freestyle, 200m backstroke and the 400m individual medley.

Josh also came 2nd in the 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke and 200m butterfly and collected bronze medals in the 50m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

Josh also finished 5th in the 50m butterfly and finished the event with seven PB’s.

Twenty one year old Luke Nisted competed in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly and coming first in each event while fifteen year old Leevi Gumbs swam in nine events coming 1st in the 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley, 2nd in the 200m freestyle, 50m and 100m butterfly and 4th in the 100m and 200m backstroke,

Fifteen year old Sam Clayton competed in six events and finished 1st in the 50m, 100m & 200m breaststroke finished just outside the medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle.

Eleven year old Sam Shurie took part in seven events finishing 3rd in the 50m freestyle, 50m and 100m backstroke and the 50m butterfly. Sam also finished just outside the medals in the 100m freestyle, 50m breaststroke and 200m backstroke. He also finished the weekend with five PB’s.

Nine year old Sam Hyland competed in four events and finished 1st in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly and came 2nd in the 50m backstroke and50m breaststroke.

Nine year old Cerys Neil competed in three events and collected silver in the 50m freestyle in a new PB and also finished 5th in the 100m and 200m freestyle

Twelve year old Sophie Buckley took part in three events finishing 1st in the 50m freestyle, 2nd in the 200m freestyle with new PB and 7th in the 200m backstroke.

Thirteen year old Emmie Brownlow competed in two events, the 50m and 100m freestyle securing a new PB in the longer event.

Ten year old Ruby Pritchard claimed a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke with a new personal best time and finished 4th in the 50m backstroke also with a personal best. Ruby also claimed 5th place in the 200m freestyle and a 6th place in the 50m breaststroke.

Thirteen year old Alex Booth competed in the 100m and 200m freestyle and the 50m backstroke where she finished just outside the medals.

Fourteen year old Lucy Harris competed in the 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle whilst fellow fourteen year old Libby Harrison took part in the 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke.

The boys relay team of Sam Clayton, Leevi Gumbs, Luke Nisted and Joshua Howard-Hughes came 3rd in the freestyle relay and the medley team of Sam, Leevi, Luke and Daniel Buckley also claimed 3rd place whilst the girls medley team of Leah Galligan, Libby Harrison, Sophie Buckley and Emmie Brownlow came third in an exciting race, just edging out the Liverpool Penguins team.
