HALTON Swimming Club had four swimmers representing them this weekend at the ASA North West Long Course Regional Championships held at the Manchester Aquatics Centre.

Swimming in the girls 12 year age group category was Sophie Buckley who competed in eight events. Sophie took part in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle and the 50m and 100m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and the 50m and 100m backstroke.

Sophie, who has been running into form just at the right time produced a stunning performance to claim gold medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle.

Sophie produced a new PB in both of the heats and then went on to better them again in the finals.

Sophie’s times of 29.66s and 1:05.76s put her 1st in the North West rankings.

Sophie also produced a new PB in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:25.38s and PB’s were also secured in the 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke.

Joshua Howard Hughes who has been training very hard over the past few months saw all his hard work pay off qualifying for ten events in the 13 year old age group.

Josh selected to swim in eight events, the 1500m and 400m freestyle, 100m and 200m backstroke, 400m individual medley, 100m and 200m breaststroke and the 50m butterfly.

Josh produced numerous person al best times, his best performances coming in the 1500m freestyle (18:48.53s), 400m freestyle (4:48.66s), 400IM (5:29.88s), 200m backstroke (2:37.16s), 100m backstroke (1:13.88s) and the 50m butterfly (32.28).

Ben Clayton competed in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and the 50m butterfly. Ben finished the event with three new personal best times finishing in 1:32.75s in the 100m breaststroke, 40.70s in the 50m breaststroke and 34.32s in the 50m butterfly.

Ben’s breaststroke time puts him in the number one spot in the current North West rankings eleven year old age category. His butterfly time puts him in second place overall.

Alfie Mather competed in the 50m backstroke in the 11/12 year old age category and finished with a new personal best time of 36.89s.
