WIDNES Vikings have extended the contract of Keanan Brand, 18, until the end of the 2019 season.

The talented centre, 18, has been with the Vikings through every stage of its development pathway - joining at 14, as a scholar.

He featured in Widnes Vikings 19 man squad for the recent Wakefield Trinity fixture and made a scoring appearance in the pre-season friendly against Warrington Wolves.

Brand played his community rugby league with Wigan St Patricks.

Brett Hodgson, Head Coach of the Widnes Vikings U19s, says: "Keanan is an outstanding left centre, who has the ability to beat people 1-1 with ease.

"He is a physical player who can dominate opposition defenders.

"Keanan has great potential and a strong work-ethic to match.

"We are pleased that he has committed to the Vikings for the years ahead."

Brand said: "I've delighted to have the opportunity to extend my contract at the Vikings.

"My development here has been fantastic, and I've really benefitted from working with Denis Betts, Brett Hodgson, Phil Finney, and the rest of the team.

"I've been with the Club since I was 14 and it feels like home.

"The aim is to now break into the first team and ultimately play regular games in the Super League.

"I'm excited for the future ahead and pleased to have had the opportunity to extend my contract here."
