FORMER Man of Steel and England international, Rangi Chase, has signed on loan for Widnes Vikings until the end of the 2017 season.

Chase joins the Vikings from Castleford Tigers. The talented half-back started his career in the NRL, representing Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra.

In 2009, he moved to the UK, playing for Castleford, Salford Red Devils and Leigh Centurions.

He will be reporting to training for the Vikings tomorrow (Tuesday) and will be in contention to make his Vikings debut at Saturday's Magic Weekend fixture against Wakefield Trinity.

New Zealand-born Chase won the 2011 Man of Steel whilst at Castleford. He earned 11 England caps and featured in England's 2013 World Cup squad.

As a condition of the loan agreement, Chase will not be available for selection in any competitive 2017 fixture against Castleford Tigers.

Denis Betts, Head Coach of Widnes Vikings, said: "I am excited about Rangi joining the Vikings.

"Whilst we are facing difficult injury challenges, we need players who are fit and able to make a difference - Chase has proven quality and we are looking forward to seeing his pedigree on the field."

Chase said: "I'm very pleased to have the opportunity to play for Widnes Vikings.

"The Vikings have unfortunately had a difficult run of injuries in the halves, which gives me an opportunity to have more game time.

"I'm very excited for making my debut."

Chase will wear the squad number 40 for the Vikings.
