WIDNES will stage its second junior parkrun at Victoria Park on Easter Sunday, 9am, after last week’s first official event was hailed a huge success.

A turnout of 75 children took part in last Sunday’s run which is free to run and designed for those aged between four and 14.

And now the event organisers are hoping to build on that this week and going forward.

A spokeskperson for the event said: “We had around 75 children, plus parents and other family members, turn out on a beautiful spring morning for our first official Widnes junior parkrun.

“It was an absolute joy to witness the enthusiasm of the children, and the support from the volunteers and families was wonderful.

“We even had tourists from as far afield as Edinburgh and Ashford-in-Kent!

“What an honour for our first official event! Not only that, but two birthdays as well.

“We can't wait until event number 2!”

Parents can accompany their children in running the 2K course around the park if they wish – as long as they do not cross the finish line.

All children under 11 must be accompanied to and from the event by a responsible adult.

The start line is at the park bandstand at 9am and marshals line the route.
