A MINUTE’S applause will take place ahead of Widnes Vikings home game with Castleford this afternoon as mark of respect to former Widnes Captain Mick Adams who passed away earlier this week.

He was aged 65.

A ball-playing loose forward or second row with an astute kicking game, Adams made over 400 appearances for Widnes during a golden age for the club when they were Wembley regulars.

He scored 68 tries during his time at Naughton Park vetween 1971-84, winning four Challenge Cups, three Premiership finals, five Lancashire Cups, the BBC Floodlit Trophy as well as winning the Championship title with Widnes in 1978.

In 1992, Adams was inducted into Widnes hall of fame following his time at the Club.

Adams also had a two-year stint in Australia with Canterbury Bulldogs.

At international level he went on two Great Britain tours in 1979 and 1984, and won 13 caps plus six England appearances.

The club said: “We would like to pass on their sincere condolences to Mick's family and friends at this time.

“Widnes Vikings would like to make supporters aware that a minute's applause will take place prior to the Castleford game as a mark of respect for Mick.”
