MEMBERS of the fledgling Widnes Running Club enjoyed success at the Warrington track marathon.
The four-man team of Andy Shelbourne, Andy Dowdeswell, Will Kozer and Andy Leslie emerged victorious after doing 26 laps each in a total time of 2 hours 40 mins.40 secs.
They finished ahead of a team called Mo Farah’s Pacers 5 in second with Charlie Sharpe coming in third.
The team featuring fellow Widnes runners Alan Myler Stuart Abel, Leigh Barber and Helen Kilgannon came in seventh position overall.
Meanwhile Mark Atherton, who ran all 105 laps solo, finished 19th out of 71 with a time of 3 hours 26 mins 25 secs.
Widnes Running Club Chairman Andrew Leslie, who was part of the victorious team, said: “I am very proud to have been part of the team that led the field home at the track marathon event.
“We’ve only been in existence as a club for a year this week and it’s great to be able to put out such a strong team already.
“It was also amazing to see some of our members take on the full 105 laps on their own and smash marathon PBs.”
The club stressed that, despite this success, they are not just about the quick runners.
They welcome men and women who can run for about 30 minutes, no matter what pace.
They also take a leading role in the couch to 5k sessions put on by Halton Council. For details, email widnesrunningclub@gmail.com
