RUNCORN boxing club headed out on the road again to the Jubilee Club - Orford, Warrington in a skills bouts event.

Every bout on the card was a skills bout which provided the boxers from Runcorn ABC with more experience before stepping into competitive action.

Boxers Alfie Nickson, Victor Zhao and Alexander Quinton all representing Runcorn, got more rounds under their belts.

Nickson stepped into the ring to take on E. Owen from Phoenix Fire ABC and put on his best performance to date, totally outclassing opponent.

Growing in confidence as the bout went on, Nickson, showing signs of the greats that have gone before him in true Muhammad Ali fashion began to showboat and put on a performance to be proud of.

He lured in Owen by dropping his hands only to use the long reach to his advantage and capitalise.

Next up representing Runcorn was Victor Zhao, a somewhat flamboyant boxer with a stylish low guard but tremendous head movement and footwork. He took on S. Shirane from Chadderton ABC.

Zhao, who in recent performances has caught the attention of opposing clubs did what he does best.

The difference in class was evident, a classic performance in the art of 'make them miss, make them pay'.

Zhao used his head movement and footwork to create angles which allowed him to pick off shots and totally outclass his opponent.

Alexander Quinton was the final boxer from our town who was gloved up to compete. Quinton took on L. Quigley of Kirkby ABC.

Quigley a southpaw offering a tricky task for Quinton in what started a pretty even bout. It didn't take long for Quinton to find his stride in the contest.

Quinton, the fantastic talent that he is was able to take complete control of the bout.

The intelligent fighter that he is was clear for all to see as he went on to switch from orthodox to southpaw to match Quigley, then once Quigley had committed to a barrage of punches, Quinton switched back to orthodox to catch Quigley out whilst avoiding being hit.

Coach Darren O'Sullivan said: "All the lads done the themselves, our club and more importantly our town proud. The coaching staff are absolutely delighted with the level of effort put in.

"It is important to remember that although these are not scored bouts, (no winner or loser) it is still a nerve wracking experience but the lads all rose to the occasion, we are very happy with them all."
