HALTON Swimming Club had a large contingent of swimmers competing at the annual Percy Mason Memorial Gala 2016, held at the Orford Jubilee Hub in Warrington.

The event, which lasted the full weekend produced a number of new personal best times and numerous top three finishes.

Ten year old Ben Clayton took part in seven events and finished with five first places, one second and a fourth. His gold medals came in the 50m and 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley, 50m and 200m breaststroke. His silver medal came in the 200m backstroke and the fourth place finish in the 50m backstroke.

Fourteen year old Sam Clayton competed in nine events, the highlights of which were his two gold medals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and silver medal in the 200m breaststroke in a new personal best time of 2:45.64s.

Nine year old Ruby continued her improvement with a first place in the 200m breaststroke in a new personal best time and claimed a 4th place in the 50m freestyle

Nine year old Rhys Croasdale competed in seven events finishing with a large haul of medals. Rhys finished in 1st place in the 200m freestyle, 2nd in the 50m butterfly, 200m individual medley, 50m and 200m breaststroke. Rhys also collected bronze in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle.

Eleven year old Leah Galligan took part in seven events and had a great weekend finishing in 1st place on four occasions, 2nd on one and 3rd on two. Leah collected gold in the 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke. Silver came in the 200m freestyle and bronze in the 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle.

Twelve year old Alfie Mather had a busy weekend competing in five events also finishing in the medals on each occasion. Alfie collected gold medals in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle, silver in the 50m butterfly and bronze in the 200m backstroke.

Twelve year old Emmie Brownlow took part in seven events, the 50m breaststroke, 100m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m breaststroke and 50m backstroke. Emmie finished in the top ten on each occasion with her best finish coming in the 50m backstroke where she collected a well-deserved silver medal.

Twelve year old Jess Connolly competed in the 50m breaststroke, 100m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 200m breaststroke with her best finishes coming in the 200 freestyle and 200m breaststroke where she finished in 6th place on both occasions.

Thirteen year olds Libby Harrison and Lucy Harris were in action in a number of events and both came home with medals around their necks.

Lucy competed in the 50m breaststroke, 100m backstroke, 50m, 100m & 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke. Lucy’s best finish came in the 50m backstroke where she finished in 3rd place, collecting a well-deserved bronze medal.

Libby collected gold in the 50m breaststroke and a bronze in the 100m freestyle. Libby also took part in the 200m freestyle, 200m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m breaststroke, 200 individual medley and 50m backstroke. She finished in 6th, 6th, 7th, 5th, 9th & 4th respectively.

Sisters Ellie and Isabelle Harrison took part in six events between them with thirteen Ellie competing in the 50m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly producing four new personal best times. Nine year old Isabelle competed in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly for the first time. Isabelle knocked over two seconds off her 50m freestyle personal best time.

Brother and Sister Beth and Josh Howard Hughes competed in three events between them with ten year old Beth winning a gold medal in the 100m butterfly in a new personal best time of 1:27.47s. Twelve year old Josh won gold in the 100m and 200m breaststroke.

Sixteen year old Beth Reid claimed a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke and also finished in 9th place in the 50m and 100m freestyle and sixth place in the 100m breaststroke.

A fantastic performance by all the team.
