Halton SC were in action again at the weekend taking part in Round 2 of the National Arena Swimming League, making the journey by coach to Kendal Leisure Centre. Halton, who finished in 4th place in Round 1 were looking to improve on this position and they didn’t disappoint.

They put in a great team performance to finish in 3rd place ahead of Everton, Ulverston and Copeland and behind Carnforth Otters and Leyland Barracudas.

Halton SC continue to defy the odds, and they performed over and above expectations with a small but very determined team, with many of the younger swimmers having to swim up in the age groups, competing against swimmers much older than them.

The highlights of the evening were their five 1st place finishes, nine runners up spots and thirteen third place finishes out of 50 events.

Ellie-Jo Hughes, Alfie Mather, Sam Clayton, Ben Clayton, Lizzie Bryce, Eleanor Donald, Sophie Buckley and Libby Harrison all produced new personal best times. A special mention must go to Joshua Howard-Hughes and Libby Harrison who both put in battling performances to finish first in two of their individual races, Josh’s 100m butterfly and Libby’s 100m backstroke a real highlight. Sophie Buckley also had a first place finish in the 50m freestyle in a new personal best time.

They were well supported by William Woodward, Sam and Ben Clayton, Alfie Mather, Lizzie Bryce and Matty Sayle who all secured runners up spots in their respective races.

The full result was 1st Carnforth Otters SC (210 pts), 2nd Leyland Barracudas SC (195 pts), 3rd Halton SC (180 pts), 4th Ulverston SC (175), 5th Everton (172 pts) and 6th Copeland (115 pts).
