WIDNES Running Club will take over this Saturday’s Parkrun event at Victoria Park, offering support and encouragement to more inexperienced runners as well as seeking to help those looking to achieve personal bests.

The fledgling mixed running club will have pacers targeting a range of times from 20 to 40 minutes over the 5km course.

Started in January 2015, Widnes Parkrun is a popular free weekly event for runners of all standards, and takes place every Saturday at 9am from the Victoria Park bandstand.

Parkrun is not a race as such, but a timed run in a friendly atmosphere, open to the community, with runners of all ages and ability running three-and-a-half laps of the park.

This week those taking part will have extra encouragement from the collection teal and white-vested Widnes runners.

Simply turn up to run, or to register and get a barcode log on to www.parkrun.org.uk/register/.

Meanwhile the Widnes Running Club have regular weekly events to cater for runners of a range of abilities.

They currently train on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, meeting at 7pm at the Frank Myler Pavilion on Liverpool Road, Widnes.

Club sessions tend to follow the same format each week with Tuesday’s interval session suitable for all runners, capable of running for about 30 minutes.

Wednesday’s hour long session alternates between the track session and a muster run.

And Thursday sees two groups, both doing steady runs of about an hour.
