HALTON Swimming Club had a number of swimmers taking part in the Liverpool and District Swimming Championships at the weekend, held at Huyton Leisure Centre.

Held over two days, the swimmers produced some very impressive performances, obtaining a large number of personal bests and netting a large collection of medals.

In the youngest age group, nine year old Bethany Howard-Hughes competed in eight events, claiming first place in seven and a runners up spot in the remaining race. Beth’s gold’s came in the 50m & 200m freestyle, 50m & 200m backstroke, 50m & 200m breaststroke and the 50m butterfly. Her sole silver came in the 100m breaststroke. Beth also produced five new personal best times to continue her impressive start to the new season.

Ten year old Ben Clayton was also very busy over the weekend competing in nine events where he finished in 1st place in five events, runners up in three events and 3rd in one.

Ben claimed gold for the 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 50m & 100m butterfly. Silver came in the 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 200m breaststroke. Ben achieved a bronze in the 200m backstroke. Ben’s weekend was made even more successful claiming nine personal best times out of nine events.

Eleven year old Sophie Buckley entered seven events and finished just outside the medals in six events but claimed a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke. Sophie finished 4th in the 50m freestyle, 200 individual medley and 50m butterfly and 5th in the 100m & 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke. Sophie claimed a new person best in the 100m freestyle knocking an impressive two seconds off her previous time.

Eleven year old Alfie Mather competed in the 50m backstroke where he claimed a bronze medal finishing just outside his personal best and took gold in the 100m butterfly in a new personal best, knocking over two seconds off.

Twelve year old Joshua Howard-Hughes competed in six events and secured gold’s for the 400m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

Two silvers came in the 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley and bronze was secured on two occasions in the 200m backstroke and 100m freestyle. Josh claimed three new personal best times in the 200 IM, 100m backstroke and 400m freestyle.

Thirteen year old Libby Harrison took part in four events finishing in 11th place in the 100m freestyle, 6th in the 100m breaststroke, 8th in the 200m breaststroke 15th in the 200m individual medley.

Libby achieved a personal best time in the 100m freestyle.

Lucy Harris took part in one event, the 100m freestyle, finishing just outside her current personal best time.

Fourteen year olds Sam Clayton, Daniel Buckley and Leevi Gumbs were in action with Sam taking part in the 100m freestyle, 100m and 200m and 200m individual medley and Daniel competing in the 100m backstroke and 200m breaststroke. Leevi took part in the 100m, 200m, 400m and1500m freestyle and the 200m backstroke.

Daniel took first place and with it, the gold medal in the 200m breaststroke and Sam took the runners up spot and the silver. Both finished with new personal best time with Daniel knocking over a second off and Sam over six seconds. Daniel also claimed a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke finishing just outside his best time.

Sam continued his current good form producing a great swim in the 100m breaststroke finishing in first place and producing a fine personal best time of 1:17.74.

Sam made the open final where he finished in sixth place. Sam finished in 6th place in the 200m individual medley and 100m freestyle producing personal best times in both events.

Leevi finished with golds in all the freestyle events and a bronze in the backstroke event.

Eighteen year old Tom Roberts and twenty year old Luke Nisted were in action with Tom taking part in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 1500m freestyle, 100m and 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley.

Tom finished in the runners spot for the 200m freestyle and first in all the freestyle events and 200m butterfly and sixth in the 100m butterfly.

Luke finished in sixth place in the 100m freestyle, second in the 100m backstroke and fifth in the 100m breaststroke where he also made the final finishing in the same position overall.
