TEN years since gifted and flamboyant English snooker star Paul Hunter died of cancer, the charitable foundation that bears his name will be coming to Widnes to help find and develop players of the future.

Budding snooker players are invited to attend Millbrow Snooker Club on Saturday, 22 October between 9.30am and noon where the Paul Hunter Snooker Foundation, in association with the Halton Community Snooker Association, will oversee a range of activities.

All are welcome, children and parents, and events include a 15 minute tournament, a 60 second challenge and a snooker relay.

There will be prizes too.

Yorkshireman Hunter was a supremely gifted player, who was dubbed the “Beckham of the Baize” on account of his playing style.

Tragically cancer cut the three time Master Champion's life short at the age of 27, but his foundation lives on with a primary aim of giving disadvantaged youngsters an opportunity to play snooker.

They target developing the interest of snooker in the 8-12 year olds age bracket and specifically targeting under privileged and disabled children in their infancy of playing.

Saturday’s event takes place at Millbrow Snooker Club, Mill Brow, Widnes, WA8 6RT.

Entry is free.
