WITH the swimming season underway Halton were in action at Huyton Leisure Centre at the weekend.

In the first round of the Merseyside and District Division One, Halton were up against Everton, Garston, Crosby and Prescot swimming clubs in what turned out to be an extremely competitive gala.

Halton were looking to get off to a good start in the league and try and cement first place going into the second round and they looked set to claim top spot until the last few races when they were overtaken by both Everton and Garston. By the end of the gala there were only ten points separating the top four teams.

There were a number of good performances with the team finishing with eleven 1st place finishes and ten runners up spots.

The stand out individual performances went to Sophie Buckley, Ben Clayton, Josh Howard Hughes, Matty Sayle, Ellie Jo Hughes, Daniel Buckley and George Winckles.

The final positions were Everton, 1st (171 pts), Garston, 2nd (169 pts), Halton, 3rd (166 pts), Crosby, 4th (161 pts) and Crosby 5th (142 pts).
