WIDNES ended the regular season in First Utility Super League with a 32-4 spanking of Catalans Dragons at the Select Security Stadium.

It was a thoroughly dominant performance by the Vikings against a side playing for a top four spot.

Five tries to one tells its own story and in truth it the margin of victory could have been greater.

The first try of the game came on seven minutes after Catalans fullback Tony Gigot spilled a Joe Mellor bomb.

Having recovered the loose ball, the Vikings moved it wide on the free-play and an inside ball opened up a huge gap for fullback Corey Thompson to coast over for a self-converted try.

The Dragons hit back with their first real attack of the game as giant Australian Dave Taylor bulldozed his way over. His fellow countryman Todd Carney contrived to miss the conversion from almost under the posts.

Widnes increased their lead to 10-4 when winger Patrick Ah Van jumped highest to catch a Kevin Brown cross-kick and plant the ball down.

Thompson couldn't find the target with the goal but slotted over a penalty shot following a high tackle on Manase Manuokafaoa.

With six minutes of the first half remaining another Thompson penalty made it 14-4.

A cagey start to the second half meant there was no further scoring until the 59th minute.

The Vikings perhaps had a shade of fortune when Joe Mellor sliced through with the Dragons players suggesting there was a knock-on in the build up.

Thompson's goal made it 20-4 and the visitors seemed to visibly wilt.

Australian schemer Carney's a sorry afternoon continued as his kick out on the full set up the position for Widnes to score again.

This time it was Aaron Heremaia who brushed through some woeful tackling after a neat Connor Farrell offload had set him free.

With three minutes remaining, winger Stefan Marsh celebrated his 100th game for the club and put the icing on the cake after Chris Dean put him in at the corner. Marsh's superb touchline conversion applied the cherry to the confection.
