HALTON’S Peter Littler will make history this weekend as he becomes the first amputee to race in the British GT Championship.

Littler, who has a prosthetic leg, false hips and three pins holding his pelvis together, will be in the driving seat of a 600HP Aston Martin Vantage GT3 car at the formidable Brands Hatch circuit, where he will be competing with a full grid of thirty plus supercars in the two-hour, 160mph endurance race.

He will face the added physical challenge of getting in and out of the car in the frantic mid-race pit stop and driver change that are such a feature of endurance racing.

Accompanying Littler will be 22-year-old co-driver Jody Fannin, who is a driver for Aston Martin Racing’s Evolution Academy.

However, despite admitting it will be a huge challenge, Peter says he has trained for any eventuality the race may throw at him.

“I train most days but have had to adjust my regime to cope with 40-degree cockpit temperature coupled with sustained high G-force cornering,” he said.

“The pit stop will also be a challenge, we have practised getting out of the car many times put then I have to get out of the way and it’s quite some time since I was able to sprint!”
