HALTON Farnworth Hornets under 13s recorded a 36-20 win to lift the  Lancashire Cup at the Select Security Stadium, despite a fearless performance by opponents Shevington Sharks.

The Widnes-based side took the lead inside three minutes after a good move across the pitch which allowed Joe Barnes to score in the corner.

Halton went on to score two successive tries through Lewis Talbot to take what proved to be an unassailable lead.

Shevington soon hit back through Taylor Sadler-Flude, Alfie Cassidy converting to make it 16-6.

But the Hornets proved too strong, breaking from the scrum to score through William Smith.

A majestic break from the kick-off inflicted more damage, Jack Taylor scoring under the posts for a try which was converted by Talbot for 26-6.

The Sharks continued to make headway through their forwards but a quick break saw Brad O’Neil score the first try of the second half.

Shevington continued to give it their all, scoring in the corner having twice been held up over the line.

A penalty from the restart allowed Halton to edge further ahead, though Shevington didn’t let their heads drop, scoring again through Sadler-Flude.

The Sharks ended on a positive note as Umuyla Hanley scored a fantastic individual try, racing in from range to make the full-time score 36-20.
