Bradford Bulldogs 2 Widnes Wild 12.

The Wild travelled east along the M62 on Saturday afternoon to face the Bradford Bulldogs, treating the travelling Wild Ones to a 14 goal thriller.

The team almost had a full bench with Joshua Benstead returning to the roster and only Chris Preston and Danny Bullock missing for this fixture, however their absence didn’t hinder the team performance.

Wild came out of the blocks quick, scoring after just 30 seconds. The first period ended with the Wild dominating and heading to the changing room 4-1 ahead, courtesy of goals from Scott Mckenzie, Kieran Strangeway, George Crawshaw & Shaun Dippnall.

The 2nd period was a similar story. Wild dominated for the most part and finished the period leading 9-1, goals this time coming from Scott Mckenzie (2), Geoff Wigglesworth, George Crawshaw and Shaun Dippnall.

After 28 minutes of the game Head Coach Scott Mckenzie decided to change the goalies relieving Greg Ruxton of his duties to be replaced by Josh Benstead. The young 18 year old making his first league appearance for the Wild this season.

The third period started with Bradford getting a quick goal to make it 9-2 but the Wild responded with 3 goals to run out 12-2 winners on the night. Goals in the 3rd period coming from Geoff Wigglesworth (2) & Scott Mckenzie.

Widnes Wild 6 Coventry NIHL Blaze 1.

Sunday evening the Widnes Wild returned home to face the Coventry Blaze. This being the second time the two sides have met early in the season, wild prevailing 6-0 winners down in Coventry at the beginning of the month.

Coventry started the game with a great work ethic and team defence that the Wild could not find a way through and even though the home team outshot the Blaze 19-5, the home team went into the locker room 1-0 behind at the end of the 1st period.

With what must have been stern words from the coaching staff during the period break, the Wild came out a completely different team. Attack after attack on the Coventry net ended up in a powerplay in which the Wild duly converted. Pavel Vales finding the net and tying the game.

Within 30 seconds Player Coach Scott Mckenzie found space in front of the net and managed to pick out the top corner past the Blaze netminder putting the Wild 2-1 up.

Further goals from Michal Fico and Shaun Dippnall secured the Wild a 4-1 lead heading into what must have been a happier changing room at the end of the 2nd period.

The home fans were treated to a quick goal as Scott Mckenzie again found space and smartly slotted home, in off the post to make it 5-1.

With that goal, Josh Benstead again found himself in the action as he replaced Greg Ruxton in the nets.

The coaching staff doing their bit to make sure that everyone gets involved in the game.

A final goal from George Crawshaw short-handed gave the Wild an eventual 6-1 victory and the ever wanted four-point weekend they were looking for. Assist on that goal being credited to Josh Benstead, getting his first point for the Wild as a goalie, a great achievement.

Overall, a great weekend for the Widnes Wild, lots to build on with a weekend of no games that will give the Wild a good rest before their next fixture of Hull Jets at home on October 11, 17:30 face off.
