HALTON Borough FC hosted the fourth Andy Parker Cup Competition at Dundalk Road on Saturday which was held for most of the day in bright sunshine.
The only clouds appeared later in the day and particularly for losing semi-finalists – Halton Borough and Withers Wonders who lost out to Daten Borough and Quality Mix respectively with the same scoreline of 2-1.
This set up a mouth-watering final between the two group winners - Daten Borough and Quality Mix –who contained a number of young, very young and more senior players, Daten Borough even contained the only female of the competition in Amber Bailey who plays for Wrexham Ladies and more than held her own during the competition.
The final was eventually won by Quality Mix who won the tie 3-0; it was good to see a number of father/son combinations on the pitch during the final.
The winner of the day was the charity which it was playing for, to raise enough funds to supply the local schools with lifesaving defibrillators.
To date the sum at the moment and still counting is in excess of £4,000 which is an excellent figure and will supply much needed defibrillators to more than the planned 2 schools.
A big thank you has to go to all the players, raffle prize donations and in particular the sponsors who have done an excellent job in supporting the charity and provided enough funds to supply lifesaving equipment to local schools.
Special thanks must go to the brilliant Warrington League Referees - Eric Skelding and Peter James who kept all the players in check and Halton Borough Council for preparing the pitches to perfection.
