RUNCORN Town drew 0-0 with FA Vase finalists Glossop Town on Monday.

As goalless draws go, this was far from dull, both teams being applauded off the pitch at full time by the appreciative crowd.

Town started well and McShane brought a full length save from Hall in the 1st minute.

Town continued to press and Bell hit a powerful shot just wide of the upright.

Glossop responded and a curling centre from Blackshaw was not far off target.

Bell had a shot charged down as Town continued to attack the Glossop back line.

Play was open with both sides going for a win.

Kieran Lugsden cut inside then hit a rising shot that cleared the crossbar.

Glossop began to force Town back, Grant and Lawton seemed to be enjoying the pressure and commanded the Town defence superbly.

When Russell centred Blackshaw headed wide with Lever scrambling across his goal.

Blackshaw was becoming a major threat to Town with Owens doing well to cover the ever increasing threat from the striker.

When Houghton and Davies opened up the Glossop defence it took a timely clearance by Young to avert the danger.

McShane, dropping deep, created an opening for Houghton but his shot was blocked by Young.

A corner by Blackshaw was headed straight at Lever by Carey as the ex-Town striker looked for a goal against his former club.

Packer brought an excellent save out of Lever with his strong header being held under the bar.

As half time approached Shanley played Bell in but again the shot was desperately blocked by Young.

Glossop started the 2nd half well, a blistering shot from Packer was pushed over the angle by Lever who was taking no chances by trying to hold the ball.

Bailey then hit a shot that brought another good save from the keeper.

When Shanley was held in the penalty area by Kelvin Lugsden the Referee waved play on, the ball was cleared but fell to McShane who hit a dipping volley from 40yds that just cleared the crossbar, with Hall well off his goal line.

Lever was soon in action doing well to thwart Carey’s fierce shot with a full length fingertip save round the post for a corner.

From the corner Lever again did well to gather the ball under pressure and clear the danger.

When Shanley challenged for a high ball in the penalty area the ball rebounded to Houghton who hit a 1st time volley from 30yds wide of the upright.

Packer headed a corner goalwards but Lever was well positioned to hold onto the effort.

As Glossop threw players forward the ball ended up at the back post with Lawton doing well to eventually hook the ball to safety with 3 forwards bearing down on him.

In added on time Glossop had a great chance to win the game, Hind went through clear of the defenders, to the relief of Town the Glossop sub pulled his shot wide of the post.

Irlam created an opening for himself before hitting a powerful 1st time shot that cannoned off Russell for a corner.

Town are home this Saturday to Barnoldswick, who are fighting to avoid relegation kick off 3pm.
