Following last week’s disappointing result at New Brighton, Widnes turned in a much better performance against Kendal, but still slipped to a fourth successive defeat in North One West.
After a fairly even opening, Kendal eventually got themselves into a 12 – nil lead thanks to two tries and a conversion, before Widnes replied in style, with two tries from stand-in winger Mike Jones and a conversion from Jon Hetherington.
Kendal edged their way into the lead again with an injury time penalty, before a purple patch mid-way through the half saw them take the game away from their hosts as they added a further four tries to secure both the win and the additional bonus point.
The home side did not throw in the towel though, and responded with more two tries from the outstanding Dave Welsh and Christian Squires.
