RUNCORN Town were thumped 7-2 at home to an exceptional Squires Gate side.

The visitors took the lead when Jack Sowerby cut in along the dead ball line before firing a low hard cross that deflected into the net.

A brace from Alex Murphy, either side of a mini Town revival, gave Gate a 3-0 lead at the break.

Any possible come back by Town was met with a stunning start to the second half by Squires Gate,with Sowerby cracking in two more to complete his hat trick.

Gate made it 6-0 with a cross from the left being deflected by Gibson past Plant.

A brief period of respite followed for Town, with Chris Lawton forcing the ball home in the 72nd minute.

When Keddie found Thompson inside the visitors half, the striker laid a superb pass to Dykes who hit the post with his shot, the ball fell to Ross Davies who netted for Town on his debut.

Squires Gate completed the scoring when Mark Buchan struck a half volley into the top corner. Town must now wipethat result from the memory and respond on Saturday when they visit Bacup & Rossendale Borough for a Premier League fixture.
