Widnes returned to home ice on Sunday for a clash with close rivals Hull Jets. Nicole Jackson was picked in goal and there was a welcome return for centreman Bobby Caunce.

Dynamo Chris Preston, picked up an injury in Coventry and declared himself unfit. A good sized crowd welcomed the teams.

The game opened in sensational style inside the first minute, when Filip Supa opened the scoring from close range.

Within a minute Wild were two up - Ben Brown firing home a rebound off Hull netminder Jack Dalby. A bit of compacency set in, with Jets coming back with goals from Declan Pearson and Jordan Fisher.

Both goals came from a failure to control possession. Wild called a time out and at 18.43 they retook the lead, the irrepressable Filip Supa being sent clear to slot under Dalby at 18.43.

Within three minutes of the restart, Hull scored the equaliser, big Matt Jeffcock tipping in at the right hand post.

Within minutes, Bez Hughes had fired Wild back into the lead, firing home a cross ice pass from the left by Ben Brown. Wild almost went further ahead when Tom Fielden broke clear on the right only to befoiled from a diving save from Dalby.

Hull tied the scores again when a low angled shot from the right beat Nicole Jackson at the right post, ricocheting out at a bizarre angle at 37.33.

After end to end play and a lack of constructive openings, Hull took the lead for the first time in the game at 52.46, a powerful shot just creeping past Nicole Jackson.

The Jets, with a short bench, were starting to feel the effects and Wild similarly were starting to look jaded after a tough double header weekend.

When it looked like both points may be on their way to Humberside, a Widnes breakout down the right, saw the puck fed by Dipnall to an unmarked Lee Pollitt in centre ice.

He crashed a high unstoppable shot past Dalby for the equaliser at 55.01.

Then followed almost 5 minutes of frantic attack, frustrated by an over active Jack Dalby in the Hull net.

Bobby Caunce tried everything to engineer the winner but the Wild had to settle for the single league point. Lee Pollitt again took the MVP for Wild his late goal rescuing a point.

On Saturday evening a really big crowd is expected for the first visit of the season of local rivals Deeside Dragons.

There is a new Saturday face off time for the remainder of the season - 5.30pm. Doors open at 4.30pm with catering outlets open inside the building.
