Widnes travelled up the M6 to Lightfoot Green and came away with an excellent victory.

The red and blacks started strongly putting Preston under extreme pressure in the early exchanges.

Sheldon Johnson and Gareth Whitfield both going close, on 16 minutes Josh Kenyon's touchline run resulted in a neat kick inside for the supporting Josh Breeden to open the Wids account.

Josh Kenyon added the extras. Widnes extended their lead 10 minutes from the break, the strong running Josh Steadman touching down wide out.

The second half saw Widnes almost score straight from the kick off when they moved the ball to their three quarter line to release Johnson who raced down the touchline, his kick in field was diffused by the Preston winger. Preston got back into the game scoring a well deserved try. The Wids extended their lead Kenyon kicking a 30 yard penalty goal closely followed by a Johnson try.

On the stroke of full time the quick thinking Alex Cooke tapped a penalty and released Joe Brown for the winger to score by the corner flag to complete the scoring.

Once again the Wids coaches were pleased with the contribution of the younger members of the team in particular Tom O'Neill, Jacob Cooley, Jack Gilhooley and man of the match Gareth Whitfield.

Widnes welcome Sandbach to Heath Road on Sunday for a 2.00pm kick off.
