IMPACT player Macgraff Leuluai believes underdogs Vikings van make a big impression on this year’s play-off campaign.

Sunday’s win at Bradford meant Denis Betts’ men secured a top eight spot and therefore clinching their stab at the Super League playoff campaign.

They can now push up top seventh if they win the final game of the regular season – away at Salford.

Leuluai was pleased with how the team secured their spot among the game’s elite with their strong second half showing at Odsal.

He said: “The big thing during the week was to make the top eight on our terms. We definitely wanted to go out there and put on a big performance and not have to rely on other teams.

“Bradford came out really strong and gave it to us, but Denis gave us a growling at half time and everyone sparked up and we ran away with it in the second half.”

Although all eyes will be on the big teams making up the eight, Leuluai believes that will take some of the pressure off him and his teammates going into the knock out phase.

Depending on the results Vikings could play any one of Leeds, Huddersfield, Warrington or Wigan in the opening, sudden death round.

But Leuluai is not over-awed by the opposition. He said: “We are excited to be there – whoever we get we are confident we can do our best. We don’t care who we get but we just want to be as high as we can.

“I think we can make progress – we have got a lot of confidence in ourselves, with Kevin Brown playing the way he is and our forward pack doing well I believe we can match any team in that eight.

“We have beaten teams like Wigan before so we are not there to make the numbers up – we want to get as high as we can.”

Vikings have one more league game – and having beaten Salford three times – they will go to the AJ Bell Stadium with some confidence.
