WIDNES Vikings’ inspirational half back Kevin Brown says he has unfinished business in the Challenge Cup and is daring to dream.

Importantly going into the club’s first Wembley qualifier since 1996 - against Castleford Tigers at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday, kick off 3pm – Vikings’ key man knows how to win semi finals.

And he has good company around him, with head coach Denis Betts being a seven-times winner of the cup itself, fitness coach Mick Cassidy being a three-times victor also with Wigan, and assistant Brett Hodgson being the Lance Todd Trophy recipient in a triumphant Warrington side only two years ago.

That is the box the 29-year-old now wants to tick, having been defeated in his two previous final appearances with Wigan in 2004 and Huddersfield in 2009.

“There’s definitely unfinished business for me,” said Brown, who was delighted to prove his fitness with a typically influential display in a testing play-offs chasing win against Hull Kingston Rovers after an injury scare the week before against St Helens.

“The difference between winning and losing is massive, like life or death. The margins are so small but the rewards are so big.

“You’ve got to do everything you can and leave it all out there because there’s no tomorrow.

“I know from experience. I played in a Challenge Cup Final when I was 18 and I took that for granted, thinking that was just the norm. I played really well but we got beat.

“Six years later I got the chance to do it again and really relish it, but I got injured after 15 minutes and we struggled in a loss to Warrington.

“Twelve years into my career I know these opportunities come few and far between.

“I’ll be stressing to the boys that this might be the last chance as a group, and as individuals for some of the older players, to win a trophy.

“So we’ve just got to take the opportunity with both hands, leave it all out there.

“Dare to dream, I think. That’s the slogan on the back of our shirts. It would be great to give the fans something to cheer about. We’re desperate for the win and it’s going to be a fantastic game.”
