WIDNES Vikings have granted Adam Lawton a sabbatical from his Super League contract with the club.

The Vikings can confirm that they have been approached by the player who has requested a period of leave from his existing contract.

The Vikings will retain Lawton’s registration should he return to Super League in the future, but can confirm his intentions to take an extended break to Australia.

James Rule, Vikings chief executive, said: “We obviously respect Adam’s request and want to provide him with the opportunity to move to Australia and away from the rigours of playing professional Rugby League with Widnes Vikings.

“We accepted Adam’s request but he will remain contracted with the Club. Widnes Vikings will retain his registration. By retaining Adam’s registration and contract, the door remains open for Adam should he wish to return to Super League in the future.”
