IT proved a learning curve of a weekend for a newly-formed racing team when making their debut at Brands Hatch.

Gavin Johnson, from Runcorn, recently joined forces with Lymm's Chris Jones to create Skywheels Racing, who compete in the Demon Tweeks/Yokohama Classic Stock Hatch Championship with the 750 Motor Club.

In their first outing at Brands Hatch, Johnson was forced to retire in race one after mechanical issues and completed race two in 23rd place with a troublesome car.

Jones suffered a failed clutch after qualifying and was unable to complete the weekend, while the team’s third driver, Ryan Lowry, brought in some much needed points with two top 20 finishes.

“It was a difficult weekend with mechanical issues affecting our pace,” said 32-year-old Johnson. “We hope to be back for Snetterton a bit more competitive.”

Jones, aged 36, added: “At Skywheels we value learning and then apply that knowledge, it will be no different with the racing team – we will learn from this weekend and be stronger at the next round.”

Skywheels Racing head to Snetterton on Monday, May 26, looking to improve on their debut performance.
