Widnes beat Kendal in the battle for a third place finish in North West One.
The winning margin though should have been far greater, as they bombed several chances by over complicating things when they didn’t really have to.
The hosts scored four first half tries through Kevin Leadbetter, Matty Smith and Dave Welsh (2), along with two Smith conversions, to lead 24 – 14 at the break.
In the second half, they added further tries from Mike Lamb and Paul O’Connor but were overly generous in the latter stages, allowing the Cumbrians to score two converted tries and a penalty to salvage a losing bonus point.
On Saturday, Widnes make their final trip up the M6 to face Kirkby Lonsdale. Kick off 3.00pm.
