A WIDNES Vikings partner school that launched the club’s new Super League kit has published a video to remember the day.
Children from Spinney Avenue Primary School initially invited the Vikings down to their school to support their fashion show, but instead the Vikings offered youngsters the chance to put a unique event together which caught the eye of the world’s media.
So in the space of a few weeks pupils at Spinney Avenue planned and laid on a fashion show as well as a press conference as Widnes Vikings unveiled their new kit for the 2014 season.
New signings Danny Galea, Danny Tickle and Paul Johnson were joined by centre Stef Marsh and the Vikings in the Community team for the day as they strutted their stuff on the catwalk and were then quizzed by youngsters who took their place next to the Press.
What happened on the day was captured in a unique video which was put together by the children as part of their media studies.
Brian O’Connor, Vikings Director of Marketing, said the day was a huge success.
He said: “We work closely with all our partner schools and when Spinney Avenue mentioned their fashion project to us, the idea was born for the school to launch our away kit there. The children did extremely well and the video they produced is really impressive.
“They managed every element of the day and incorporated their media skills alongside music, drama, fashion and history into their production.”
Liam Clark, Vikings in the Community Officer, added: “The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and it’s still something they talk about now when we go and visit them. Spinney Avenue tell us that our partnership together is working really well and the children are benefiting from our work.
“We’re delighted with the end product that they have given us in the form of the video. We are proud to publish this across all our media channels.”
