Wild returned from a four week mid season break to record a vital win against their North West rivals.

Following the shock defeat on their last visit to the Blackburn Arena, Widnes had to dig deep against a physical Eagles team determined to pull off another shock result.

A goalless first period saw the home team attacking the Widnes net with netminder Tom Mc Donald making a series of good saves. At the other end Nick Saxton made vital stops close to the net.

The game burst into life in the 12th minute when new Widnes skipper Tom Revesz and Blackburn's Reece Cairney-Witter -'guesting' from the Blackburn Hawks - had an altercation near the penalty box.

The violent clash ended with both occupying the penalty box. Another fight broke out in centre ice at the same time, with Wild's Anthony Melbourne using his reach advantage to get the better of Christian Wareing !.

The second period saw Wild take the lead after some sustained pressure - Tom Revesz firing home from a Callum Ruddick pass. Almost immediately, the game was halted when Wild's Joe Charlton sustained a nasty head wound after an apparent check from behind.

Both teams went to the dressing rooms as the ice was cleaned and Charlton went to hospital. The incident appeared to fire up the visitors and in the 38th minute overseas star. Filip Supa, hit a blistering shot high into the net, following good work from Revesz and Evans.

The final period saw Widnes take a 4- 0 lead with further goals from the influential Shaun Dipnall and Filip Supa, both much appreciated by the sizeable Widnes following in the crowd.

With the game time winding down, the puck came loose during a Widnes attack, allowing Blackburn's James Riddoch to break away to fire high past Mc Donald. There was just time for Filip Supa to fire home his hat trick goal following good work from Ben Brown.

Young Tom Ratcliffe took the MVP for a fine all round performance in a game marred by unpleasant, unwanted incidents.
