Widnes lost out on their return to action with a narrow defeat away at Wigton.
This was always going to be a tough one for the visitors who lacked any meaningful possession throughout and trailed 12 – nil at half time.
Wigton extended their lead with a penalty after 55 minutes, before Arnie Haydock got Widnes on to the score sheet with a well taken try from close range on the hour mark.
Widnes will be hoping to put things right on Saturday when they host Wilmslow at Heath Road. Kick off 2.15pm.
