New Year's Resolution - Run the 2014 Chester Half Marathon

The organisers of the Chester Half Marathon are offering people the chance to work on losing those extra pounds gained over Christmas by training for the 2014 race.

“With its Racecourse start and spectacular city centre finish the Chester Half Marathon is arguably one of the most popular events in the North West,” says Race Organiser Chris Hulse. “This is the opportunity to experience being part of the largest field in the 32 year history of this classic race which always sells out well in advance.”

“And with less than 20 weeks to race day on Sunday 18 May now is the time to start training,” says Chris. “We are again arranging a series of free, informal “pop along and join in” training runs. These will give runners the opportunity to run with others and chat about their training, gaining valuable advice, tips and encouragement at the same time.”

The first training run will be held on Sunday 12 January, with runners assembling in the cafe area at Total Fitness, Liverpool Road, Chester CH2 1AQ for a 9am start to run along the traffic free Greenway before returning for coffee, cakes and a chat.

“We will split into different groups based on distance and pace, so there should be a group for everybody from those who want a long/fast run to those who’d rather do a couple of miles walk/jog,” says Chris.

“We’re a friendly bunch and no one should feel under pressure to do any more than they want to or are capable of doing!”

Giving valuable support to the event are associate sponsors Total Fitness Chester. General Manager Richard Milne says: “As an organisation dedicated to promoting and facilitating exercise and health we are keen to support our local marathon.

" Running is a superb way to get fit and having a goal like participating in such a fantastic event is key to maintaining the necessary motivation. Our members have given us some excellent feedback about the enjoyable route and excellent organisation and we are proud to be involved.

"Attendees of the training runs are welcome to use the changing rooms and showers at Chester Total Fitness”.

“If you enter the race by 31 December a special reduced fee applies,” adds Chris. “£26 (UKA affiliated) or £28 (non-affiliated).

“A good incentive to take the plunge even before the New Year and why not encourage your friends and family to follow your example by committing to the main event or even the fun run!”

More information about the event including how to enter and the training runs can be found at www.chesterhalfmarathon.co.uk. The website also features information on the MBNA Chester Marathon which will be held on Sunday 5 October 2014.
