THE weather spoiled any attempt to play any football but Alsager used the windy conditions better and were entitled to be pleased with their victory.

League leaders Runcorn with the strong wind at their backs attacked persistently but that came to nothing.

When the second half commenced, the wind picked up getting even stronger, Runcorn were struggling to get the ball out of their own half. An attempted clearance by Wills caught in the wind and ended up back in his own area.

It took a high ball from Davies out wide on the left, that caught in the gale, forcing an error from Wills, the ball fell right into the path of ex Runcorn player Chris Smith who scored the opening goal Runcorn were really up against it now and the introduction of all 3 substitutes made an impression.

The play was constantly in the Runcorn half with Wills overworked with unending goal kicks.

Alsager got a second goal on 76 minutes with Steve Hughes cutting in from the right hitting a powerful shot across Wills.

Alsager sealed victory in the 82min when Jed Davies hit a free kick from 30 yards that caught in the wind and deceived Wills, the ball dropping over the keeper and just under the crossbar.

Town visit Colne on Saturday.
