Vale of Lune 10 Widnes 18.
WIDNES gave themselves an early Christmas present with this outstanding result at Powderhouse Lane.
In dreadful conditions, they trailed by 10-0 at half time, before mounting a second half comeback to take the spoils in a game which finished in almost total darkness.
Kevin Leadbetter finally got Widnes on to the score sheet with a penalty, before Rob Critchley scored a try after 53 minutes which Leadbetter again converted to square things up.
Five minutes later, big Arnie Haydock charged down a desperate clearance kick to touch down and give the visitors the lead, before Kevin Leadbetter booted over a 45 metre penalty to wrap things up.
Lee McDermott’s side can now enjoy a break until January 4, with a trip up the M6, to face Wigton.
