WIDNES play their last league game before the enforced Christmas break, when they travel to take on Vale of Lune at Powder House Lane.
This will be a real tough game, albeit against a side, who probably consider themselves to be ‘struggling’ by their own high standards having lost five games, including last weekend’s narrow defeat at the hands of newcomers Warrington. Lee McDermott’s side though have plenty to prove following the last gasp defeat against Broughton Park, and will be anxious to avoid back-to-back defeats for the first time this season.
The last meeting between the two back in September, saw Widnes put up a real backs-to-the wall job before winning 13 – 10, and, under the current circumstances, they would gladly settle for the same again this time around.
The game kicks off at 2.15pm.
Widnes 20
Broughton Park 24
Widnes somehow managed to press the self destruct button and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in this North One West clash at Heath Road.
After struggling along in the first half in which they trailed 5 - 7, they recovered to lead 20 pts – 10 with just ten minutes left.
However, two late yellow cards to go with an earlier red, was to cost them dearly as the visitors came roaring back into the contest to score a converted try, before the referee awarded Park a penalty try in the final minute to seal the win.
