FOLLOWING Widnes Wild’s recent run of bad results the club was starting to think they would struggle to sign any quality players before the transfer deadline. However, two targets have been landed to bolster the team’s resources.

They are 21-year-old forward Tom Revesz, who is transferring from Manchester Minotaurs, and 18-year-old defence man Thomas Jackson, who is coming in from Hull Stingrays. “Revesz has played inline hockey for me for many years,” said team manager Mick Caunce.

“He featured in our annual trip to Holland where we won the Tilburg Cup last year and I tried to get him to come over to us pre-season but he said he wanted to give the new set-up at Manchester a chance first. “Revesz is a physical player who will back away from no-one, while Jackson is a young player who has picked up loads of experience.”

He has played the last four seasons over in Hull, showing his commitment to the sport.

Thomas, who lives in Glossop, has been doing the four hour round trip twice a week for the last four years.

Thomas said: “It’s a bit of a no brainer me joining the Wild as now I am senior I have to help fund my sport myself and the cost and time of travelling twice a week to Hull was too much.

“I am looking forward to playing my first game at Widnes as a Wild player and I already know a few of the lads on the team.”

Wild are also looking into a possible two-way deal with another Manchester player and more details are expected to follow soon.

Coach Mark Gillingham: “I think we’ve made two signings that will definitely address some of the issues we’ve been having over the past few weeks.

“Tom Revesz will definitely bring some much-needed physicality to the side.

“We knew we needed to address the issue of having someone like that in the side, but didn't want it to be someone who could only contribute in a physical manner, so in Tom we’ve got that added depth.”

Both new signings will be icing on Sunday when the Widnes Wild take on Sheffield at home face-off 6.15pm.
