Widnes just about did enough to claim a victory over their local rivals.
The Wids bombed a number of chances in the first half and had to wait 30 minutes to register their first score, Tom Beech putting a neat kick into the ingoal area and the alert Adam Kirby on the wing pouncing to score the first try.
The second half saw Widnes putting on presusre in the opening stage but once again bombed 2 if not 3 clear cut chances, and had to make do with a Tom Beech penalty goal.
Mid way through the half Mike Jones powered over from 15 yards to touch down under the posts, Beech added the simple conversion for a 15-3 lead.
LSH came back into the game to score a well deserved try to close the gap to just 5 points.
Elliot Dennett made a 20 yard break Widnes recycled the ball quickly and moved it along their back line to Sheldon Johnson who broke through the defence only to be denied by an excellent try saving tackle which resulted in a penalty awarded to Widnes which was then converted by Beech for the final score of the afternoon.
The Leecliff Hotel, Blackpool man of the match was awarded to Andrew Preston closely followed by Joe Galloway. Widnes travel on Sunday to 2nd place Tarleton in a top of the table clash.
